Handling Tips for Paintballs

Paintballs are made from a gelatin caplet similar to Tylenol Gel Caps, they are filled with a washable mineral oil and food coloring. Paintballs are bio-degradable and actually edible...
but not very tasty! Below are guidelines in which paintballs should be stored to maintain and extend the life of the paintballs

No off-field paintballs allowed at Safari Ridge.

Taking Care of Paintballs
in All Weather Conditions

Recommended Storage
Conditions

Fluctuating temperatures and humidity will dramatically affect the accuracy and performance of the paintballs. They will require extra care and attention - if you want them to perform at their best. We've compiled some suggestions to assist you in making the most out of your game by taking the appropriate steps to ensure your paint is well taken care of.

Extreme temperatures affect the performance of a paintball. A paintball shell contains a minimal amount of water and is an all natural product. Because cold air is relatively dry, it will extract water from the shell. In hot and humid weather, the shell will absorb water like a sponge. It is a good idea to keep these thoughts in mind when storing your paint.

Ideal temperatures for storing your paint range from 59F (15C) to 86F (30C). Relative humidity should fall between 40 - 50%. Anything outside of these variations may result in unfavorable performance of the paintballs.

Keep paint sealed in the original bag. If left open, the capsules will react with the environment and become either brittle or soft more quickly.

Rotate paint regularly within the bags, hoppers and tubes for optimal performance.

Paint in cases, pods or hoppers should not be left on the ground for extended periods of time.

Cold Weather Tips

Hot Weather Tips

Keep all paint in a warm place while playing (ie; either a vehicle or other warm storage area). Fill your hoppers and pods just before game time and empty them immediately after into the container kept in a warm place.

When selecting a barrel, keep in mind the diameter in relation to the weather conditions. Paintballs have a tendency to contract in the cold weather and could potentially roll out of the barrel.

Dimples may occur due to lower temperatures. They will not come out of a paintball.

Do not use paintballs that have been frozen.

Be alert to the level of humidity that you are playing in. This is a major factor in the performance of a paintball.

Store your paint in an air-conditioned area or vehicle along with any gear that contains your paintballs. If you notice several bouncers, chill the paint in the refrigerator (not the freezer) for 30 -60 minutes maximum. This should improve the paintballs due to the dry, cool air. Be careful not to leave paint refrigerated any longer than specified above.

Flat spots throughout the case may be due to exposure to high humidity or heat.

Cold  32f or 0c    Hot  95f or 35c

The longer a player leaves their paintballs in poor conditions, the more likely it will be effected. In extreme conditions even 20 minutes of exposure may adversely affect the quality of the paint.
